This UN-conference is themed around the ineffable music therapy movement, Community Music Therapy (CoMT). We’re proud to invite Dr. Brynjulf Stige and several other colleagues that have generously donated their time to talk about this movement that continues to re-shape the assumptions of music therapy, health, wellness, identity, culture-centeredness, and musicking.

The UN-conferenceis a live event on 4/11/2024 from 10am-2pm EST (GMT -4) but can also be viewed, in part or wholly, asynchronously
. The live UN-conference will take place on the UofL Zoom platform and will be edited and posted for viewing in the week following the live event. In addition, attendees will read and reflect on highlighted CoMT papers, articles, and other multi-media to inspire new ways of thinking and being in music therapy.

Schedule of UN-presenters:

  1. 10-11am EST - UN-Keynote: A Primer and Call to Community Music Therapy
    1. Dr. Brynjulf Stige, the Grieg Academy, University of Bergen
  2. 11-12pm EST - Guided Discussion session – Applying & Adapting CoMT to different contexts
    1. Dr. Kathleen Murphy, SUNY New Paltz; Dr. Viggo Krüger, the Grieg Academy, University of Bergen
  3. 12-1pm EST - Panel discussion session – How to practically do CoMT? Partnerships, Funding, Failures, etc.
    1. Featuring: Dr. Gary Ansdell, Convenor / Doctoral programme, Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy, London; Gabrielle Banzon, MA, LPMT, MT-BC, Georgia College & State University Clinic Coordinator and MT Faculty; Cynthia Koskela, M.Ed., MT-BC, Clinical Director, Berklee Center for Music Therapy; Dr. Elizabeth Mitchell, Assistant Professor, Wilfred Laurier University; Dr. Stuart Wood, independent scholar and arts-based music therapy research.
    2. Facilitated by: Chris Millett, UofL Music Therapy
  4. 1-2pm EST - Community Art Gallery – A collaborative, creative UN-poster session where participants are encouraged to share their CoMT-informed projects and creative responses. Facilitated by Andrew Chapman, MT-BC, UofL Music Therapy Clinic.
  5. 2-2:30 EST - Final Reflections, Q&A, and CMTE Instructions


CMTE Information:This experience is approved by the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT) for 7 CMTE credits. The University of Louisville, Approved Provider #P-222 maintains responsibility for program quality and adherence to CBMT policies and criteria.
